Set against the stunning backdrop of Bath Abbey, the markets 170 beautifully decorated wooden chalets add to the markets charm. Wander the cobbled streets around the Abbey taking in the sights sounds and smells; it gives the perfect Christmas feeling!

If you are visiting on a Saturday during the market then take 20 minutes out of your day to go to the Abbey for shoppers’ carols. This traditional but informal service is very popular and offers a welcome festive break from shopping.

Often considered one of the best Christmas markets in England, Winchester’s market is particularly charming and full of character. It is located within the historic grounds of Winchester Cathedral. The market is inspired by traditional German Christmas markets, with wooden chalets. It offers everything from local crafts and festive decorations to a varied option of delicious food and drink.
In addition to the market, visit the outdoor ice skating rink; booking in advance is advised! The cathedral itself is beautifully lit up during the Christmas season, adding to the enchanting atmosphere.



What else to do in and around Winchester
As well as a trip to the market there are a number of other places to explore including Winchester Castle Great Hall, which is home to the legendry table of King Arthur. There is also the option to visit inside the cathedral as well as paying a visit to the city mill which is one of the oldest in the country.
If you want to extend your trip for the weekend or a few days then you are around 30 minutes from the New Forest National park, which is always worth a visit.
40 minutes to the east is the famous attraction of Stonehenge.
London
London boasts an array of festive options across the city. From Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland to the more traditional Southbank Centre Winter Market and the festive transformation of the famous Spitalfields Market, there is plenty of choice in this great city.
Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is arguably the largest and most well-known London Market. It offers a mix of ice skating, a circus, a giant Ferris wheel, dozens of food stalls and fairground rides. Head to the Southbank Winter by the River, with its classic wooden huts for handicrafts, along with many food and drink options. It also offer iconic views of London’s famous landmarks across the River Thames.

London has so much to do and you can spend many an hour wandering its streets and parks, browsing the shops, grabbing a coffee and enjoying its diverse nature.
York
York is one of England’s most picturesque cities, and it has one of the best Christmas markets in England. It is known locally as St Nicholas Fair and is situated in the heart of the medieval city. Nestled amongst the historic squares and along the cobbled streets, it gives the perfect festive atmosphere.
The market is filled with beautifully decorated wooden chalets each selling their own selection of gifts and local food. You’ll find everything from quirky Christmas decorations to Yorkshire-themed gifts. Be sure to try the famous Yorkshire puddings, roasted meats, and seasonal treats like mulled wine and mince pies.

Located in the centre of Birmingham, this market offers a wide variety of German food and drink. It serves everything from bratwurst sausages and pretzels to German beer and of course the traditional glühwein.

If you wish to extend your stay beyond a day then Birmingham is a large and vibrant city. On the outskirts of Birmingham in Bourneville, Cadbury world is a great place to spend a few hours. There are plenty of options in Birmingham such as Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery as well as the Botanical Gardens.
